Predominantly used in the hilly regions of Nepal, including the Kathmandu Valley. The standard breakdown is Ropani - Aana - Paisa - Daam.
Widely used in the flat, southern plains (Terai) of Nepal. The calculation system is Bigha - Kattha - Dhur.
1 Ropani is exactly equal to 5,476 square feet (sq ft).
1 Aana is equal to 342.25 square feet. So, a popular plot size like 4 Aana would be 1,369 square feet.
Bigha is a much larger land unit used in the Terai region, while Ropani is used in the Hilly regions. 1 Bigha equals 72,900 sq ft, whereas 1 Ropani is only 5,476 sq ft. Therefore, 1 Bigha is a little over 13 Ropani!
To convert a Bigha value, simply multiply it by 72,900. Or, skip the math entirely by typing your value directly into the "Bigha" field in our calculator above to automatically get the square footage.
